NOTE:  some of the locations/directions differ from the original walkthrough.  I do not know if the game randomizes certain locations (e.g. rooms in the Sanctuary).



Controls:



Introduction

Due to seemingly endless questions I decided to write this.  Use at your own discretion, if you blow up your computer or the joy of gaming I refuse any liability.  Also, I give you almost the minimum trouble-solution, not the max. score one.

And, this game is sorta tricky: you must save often, after each room in the sanctuary and in every possible place when out.  That way you don't have to start too far again.  In the asylum second and third floor, always walk counter-clockwise, as that is the way the guards go and you reduce the risk of bumping into them that way.



Walkthrough:

Start at your cell: look your medical record, get cup, use cup on bug, get key.  Talk to window in door when guard walks past, offer bug to Nirva the guard, talk to him until you know the name of doctor.  Wait until you get food, get knife, use knife on window, go window, move along ledge to open-able window to your right, open window, enter.

Open door, go to the long room on the north side of the floor, and enter it.  Get the CPR dummy and exit.  Go back into your cell and use CPR dummy into your bed.

Then leave cell and enter closet on the other side of the hallway, get blanket and scissors.

Exit closet, enter Barney's cell (middle door on the eastern wall, with observation window to Barney’s section), talk to Barney (talk intercom):– he says he is cold.  While talking, “offer blanket” to Barney and talk to him (“talk about”).  You get names and details.  Exit.

Walk to the door on the west wall opposite the corridor which the closet is in, move picture on the wall and read two messages on the wall.  Move pillow and get key.

Walk until northwest corner of the floor and go one floor up.  Enter the locker room in the middle of the short northern corridor, move towel on the bench, get key and use both keys to open two of the lockers (3rd and 5th from left).  Get boots and your personal gear.

Exit, and walk south from the door, to the long corridor.  Enter first door on right.  Get crowbar from chest of drawers, use crowbar on box on top of filing cabinet, get hook.  Look at dark shelves at back of room, open National Geographic (about labyrinth in depths of hospital = escape route).

Leave and go two floors down.  Enter bottom door in the southeast corner, open box and get flashlight.  Enter topmost door on the same wall and get scalpel from the dartboard.

Now enter doc's office on the western wall.  Move painting on back wall and books on 2nd shelf of bookcase, open safe, get cash.  Get keys from the table.  Open file cabinet (second on the left rack) and read about yourself, read newspaper on floor.

Use scalpel on doc, hassle him, “talk about” everyone, pleasant, hassle etc until you get the hitman's name = Fontaine.  “Talk about” Fontaine.  (Do not leave until you have talked about Fontaine).

Then leave doc's office.  Go into basement, use key you got from the cell to open the door.  Enter furnace room.  Move middle pile of coal, get pick.  Open phone box on wall to right of furnace, use scissors on phone box.  Use pick on hole in the wall.

Enter maze.  Take first road to the east, until the first burial chamber, then south until very bottom of the screen.  Then west and along until you see the green moss, and walk completely around (past it to the north, then south).  Follow the path west a bit then north to the "doorway" which is a squat-arch shape. Then enter doorway to see that you are in a wine cellar with a dead body.

Get rag, move crate left of the wine rack.  Use rag on the upper plaque, read both (one is how to open the hidden exit, the other is MCDXXXIII).  Figure out the roman numerals (=1433) and move wine bottles starting from the top row:  1433 (i.e. move 1st bottle in top row then 4th in next row, then 3rd bottle in the next two rows).

Look body (or look blood), use crowbar on crate by body’s feet, get wine bottle.  Exit through secret door.

You are in a cave.  Go to the very mouth of the cave (where you came in, i.e. stand to right of dark entrance), then "goto wall" ( you will cling to the cliff).  Climb up (use up-arrow on keyboard).  Use hook on top of cliff.

Look blue car, use keys on blue car’s door.  A map comes up with a list of destinations (places and names).

Go to McBain apartment / mansion.  Get key (among glass right of the table, i.e. by top (northern) corner of seat of chair).  Look glass, move light-switch, move shield of the statue.  Insert key into hole ("use key on keybox" in hole in statue), look computer.  Get explosive at front bottom right of computer.  Move the bookshelf on the right wall.  Use one explosive on the safe and stand back and wait for explosionLook at box in safe, open box in safe.  Get box in safe.  Look at red box in the bookshelf, get red box.  Look at notepad on desk.  Get notepad (note appears in inventory).

Travel to your (Mason’s) apartment.  In bedroom, look photo on the floor, look desk (see scene).  Look work on desk below blue picture.  Move pillow.  Get key, use it on door of parrot's cage in room on right.  Get cracker from the table, use it on parrot.  Get key that falls onto counterOpen cupboard under parrot.  Look toolbox.  Get tools.  Move flower, look CAD, get CAD, use key to open top drawer in right side of desk (above one with false front).  Look at folder in drawer (= dolphin).

Travel.  Select "Use CAD system" from travel menu.  Enter password (a water mammal = dolphin), read email, analyze note (reduce as far as it will go, then enhance (enlarge) until you can sort-of read it.  Scroll completely up and down the document.  Read as much as you can of the lilac writing).  {The enhance/reduce/scroll movements trigger "Rachal Akura" onto the map.  The note is from Frank McBain to Rachal Akura: "I have to meet with you to exchange information.  I know all the most recent data on Black September"}.  Do research if you want to read more about various people/subjects (use right-arrow on your PC’s keyboard to see more names on menu/list).

Then select Travel and head to Rachel Akura.  Give her the dossier of information about Iraqis.  Talk about other subjects especially Fontaine, Stormbringer (and Thunderbolt).  Offer her cash, use orange arrows to adjust offer amount (500 bucks) and she gives you a tranquillizer shot.  Head for Fontaine.

Stay unmoved until Fontaine stops by the trash-bin, he is heading east then.  Then quickly walk forward and use dart on him.  Now, talk to him until you find out about Athens headquarters (by talking about Black December).  Fly to Athens.

While doing the next few steps, you will have to duck out of sight of the guard when he comes into the area.  Get rock, get catapult arm, use arm with catapult.  Set up the catapult by pulling lever and inserting the rock into catapult.

Wait until guard arrives.  He will come to a standstill.  When guard approaches this point, move lever.  There will be a cute splurt.

Enter door and watch for the hitman.  Dodge him around the boxes until you reach the monitors.  Wait somewhere and use explosives on the monitor so guard will blow up when he looks at the monitor.  It will take ten seconds for them to blow so you have to make your move in good time.  This is tricky but eventually you will get it right.

Then go see the hostage.  Talk to Michael, especially about Thunderbolt and Black December (to get photo) and about Michael, until you find out who Jackal is.  Travel, but first use cad to study Jackal, and bingo, you have another name ( Carlos ).

Fly to Carlos.  Bluff him until you talk about wine (i.e. bluff, bluff, pleasant), then offer him the bottle, and offer again if necessary, until he says "This is a rare vintage", then ask about….  The name of Golden appears.  Now you can ask about Scorpio, Golden and Quinn.  Offer him also 500 $ and he gives you a lockpick.

Fly back to Athens and pick the big safe there.  Look note.  Get note.  When you travel, use CAD to analyze the note / message.  Write codes down (blue = 3 o’clock, green = 9 o’clock, red = 6 o’clock).

Then travel to Venice / Golden.  Talk to bartender (help), offer him 500 and ask about Golden, you will then be able to meet with Golden but before you go right, read newspaper and taste Finlandia Vodka (the tall bottle) to sharpen up ( :-) .

Go right through doorway and talk to Golden about whatever you want, and especially about Scorpio, Jack Quinn, Jackal, and Company, then wait around until Golden is either dancing or at table and guard leaves.  (No trick here, just waiting for approx 2 minutes).  Then quickly go behind curtain.  Get key above door, open jewel box on desk, get another key and open top right desk drawer.  Look.  Get stationery.  You can also take makeup kit but it is of no use.  Goto door to leave, "travel" to access CAD, analyze stationary, research Buzz Brezhnev, and go talk to bartender about "Buzz".

Travel to Buzz, hassle him for two times and then be friendly (i.e. hassle, hassle, help).  He will believe you about Scorpio, so ask about Scorpio.  Offer Buzz 500 and get the pills.

Travel to Scorpio.  Meet Scorpio.  Talk if you want (to fill in the story).  Then leave, read email, take train to Lisa, go see Quinn, talk if you want, leave then and go to Coliseum.

Coliseum: you will wake up in a sorta strange situation.  Wait in peace until the rope breaks, then walk through rear gap (next to wall and south yellow door) into tiger’s pen.  Wait for the tiger to go via the front gap (by south yellow door) into its lair and quickly go back out from there, move lever.  The tiger is trapped.  If not, then you were not quick enough.  Try this, while waiting in the pen, you can click "move" "lever" but do not activate it yet, then when the tiger is going into the pen, quickly walk out and click to activate the command to move lever).

Get rope, move bones, get hook, use rope on window.

Look man, you could get rod/lever but I do not actually think you need the rod, look bag by window, open bag, get bag (with your stuff in it).  Move sack by table, read newspaper and get blueprint and postcard.  Move (or open) second bottom brick on the right side of the door (directly to left of hanging man’s legs), and open door.  Enter.

Use CAD, read email, analyze postcard.  Find microdot (enhance until you see the microdot then move around, especially right until "Microdot detected" appears). Click enter on CAD keyboard, "Decoding microdot".  Wait a couple of seconds then Enter again.  Read message on CAD screen.

Travel to Belgrade.  (If you miss the train you lose.  Go back all the way to the escape from the asylum and use plane more.  After this point you won't need any more money and you can play for it at Golden's bar).

Read newspaper.  Go right until the telegram in front of ashtray.  Read it.  Take it.  Go to next car.  Open first door, open compartment above bench at right, look body, open wallet.  Leave.  Open third and fourth doors.  Enter fourth.  Talk to Jackal with: Bluff, hassle and help.  Use knockout capsules on his food, quickly leave and go to next compartment.

Come back and you'll find him unconscious.  Bingo!  Open his luggage compartment, get tool, open briefcase/attache, look, get briefcase, and get his priest costume.  Go to next car all the way to the end and open the violin-case-looking crate with the tool (“use tool on casket”).

Get plastic explosive.

Don't bother with the lady's password (she says "I’ve got a yo-yo"), just give her the money (briefcase/attache).  Enter door to your left, get gear, go back right, use gear on shaft in the middle of the machinery (the shaft looks like a tiny gear-cog).  Move switch, go left, enter sewer when it is dry, go left, go ladder.

You will need to move fairly fast for the next section:

Use plastic explosive on doorway right of the room and enter.  Move elephant, move plaque (or wall-block) in wall behind the elephant.  Look at bomb.  Open screws (in corners of grey panel) with screwdriver, turn the colored screws as noted in the message (blue = 3 o’clock, green = 9 o’clock, red = 6 o’clock), and cut the wires, first bottom, then top and last the middle one.

That's it.  Enjoy the ending. (what a waste to my opinion... :-) ) .

Actually, I liked the ending – very appropriate.
