Mr. Bill's Adventureland Review

Humongous advertises this 'feel good' Sandlot Baseball game as the #1 selling Sports CD-ROM for kids, and we well understand why it is number one. We adult kids had a ball playing it (pun intended) and had to drag ourselves away in order to concentrate on the more serious, and less fun, adult games.
With easy-to-use controls simple enough so that even your littlest kids can compete, the game nevertheless has enough variations and complexity built in to challenge even those of us who think we are experts. Indeed we had a hard time winning!
It is set up like a hybrid between the rules for Little League and Major League Baseball, but has 'little kid' players. You can choose to play a Single Game or for a Season, managing your team through a 14 game Series. You can save and resume the series later.
First you get to choose your own team including name, uniform, players and the lot you play on ..... from 10 different fields. There are 30 boys and girls to choose from, all with varying levels of skill or clumsiness and all with true-to-life, and often funny quirks (which are then commented on by the announcers during the game). And you can even plan your strategy prior to the game by juggling the batting order and adjusting the fielders.
Once the game begins, you are in complete control. You choose when to swing, how hard, and where to hit the ball with 8 different swing choices ..... and timing is everything. When your team is in the field, you have a choice of 12 different pitches and you also have base running and fielding controls.
There are up-to-the-minute stats for each player, team photos and individual playing cards. And if you do manage to win, you can go all the way to the World Championships in a race for the Pennant. Or if you're really not feeling up to all that, you can simply choose to practice hitting with the Batting Practice Option or just watch a game in the Spectator Mode.
This game is a sure winner for any kid interested in baseball, with hours and hours and days and days of varying playing situations. We highly recommend it!
